design-editor — 2026
Design Editor
A local-first vector design editor where you and AI agents design on the same live canvas.

ACT I — THE PROBLEM
I wanted to design with my own AI agents: on my own machine, with my own model, on a canvas I could watch them change. I could not find a tool that worked that way, so I built one.
ACT II — THE SYSTEM
A fork of OpenPencil (MIT), reshaped for designing with agents. It draws with Skia through jian and runs a built-in MCP server, so Claude Code and other agents build on the canvas while you watch. The in-app chat runs on agent-rs with your own model: a major provider, any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or an agent installed on your machine. Accounts, real-time collaboration, cloud storage and the mobile players are gone, and nothing needs a server.

The startDescribe a page, or bring a Figma file, a web page or a screenshot. The MCP server is already running, with Claude Code connected.
The close-upThe built-in chat on your own model. Each step the agent takes on the canvas is listed as it lands.

OPEN-SOURCE REPOS BEHIND IT
It ships for macOS and Windows with automatic releases. Documents open as .op files, designs come in from Figma, SVG and web pages, and go out as images, decks and React, SwiftUI, Flutter and more. Agents get a skill of their own for it in design-editor-skill.
